A curbless shower tile installation is only as durable as what’s underneath it. Subfloors flex. Structures settle. Temperature changes cause materials to expand and contract. VIM provides a shower isolation fabric that stops that movement before it reaches your tile. It’s engineered specifically for use in our Level Entry Shower System™, and it’s one of the reasons VIM installations have had zero reported waterproofing failures since 2008.
What Anti-Fracture Isolation Fabric Does
Curbless shower isolation fabric is installed between the shower pan surface and the tile thin set layer. It’s job is to absorb and isolate the minor movement that naturally occurs in any structure before that movement can crack the tile or open up grout joints above it.
Here’s why that matters specifically in a level entry shower:
- No curb means a larger, uninterrupted tile field: More surface area means more exposure to the expansion, contraction, and substrate flex that causes cracking over time
- Showers are high moisture environments: Moisture infiltrating through cracked grout joints is one of the leading causes of long term waterproofing failure in shower floors
- The shower pan sits on a subfloor that moves: Wood subfloors in particular are subject to seasonal movement; isolation fabric decouples the tile from that movement

Multi Sized Fabric
Each waterproofing kit is supplied with a 6” x 75’ and 36” by 20’ roll of isolation fabric, which is typically more than enough fabric for the average sized shower. Additional fabric is available for purchase for larger shower applications.
- 6″ x 75 ft Roll — the narrow format for seams, transitions, perimeter edges, and any area where focused coverage is needed without wasting material
- 36″ x 20 ft Roll — the wide format for covering the main field of the shower floor efficiently, with less overlapping and fewer seams
